Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

Sarah Shead - SENCo

Transition in itself is a huge step for all of us. The transition from primary to secondary is a milestone in a child's education and can be particularly challenging at the best of times. Some young people will find this time even more difficult, especially those with special educational needs, additional needs and added anxieties.

The SEND team at Wilmington Academy is led by our SENCo Sarah Shead. Together, with her team, there is a vast experience of working with students that will need additional support during this time. Please find attached a link to our SEND statement which details the additional provision that can be provided in school. We also have the added bonus of our Wellbeing Manager Sarah West (Monday - Friday).

The Acting SENCo and the SRP Coordinator will be participating in an online transition programme where primary schools notify us of students that have SEND Support or will require additional transitional support. These students will be discussed and ways in which to ensure a smooth transition will be shared. If your child has an EHCP or will be part of our Iris Centre, we are already aware and are more than happy to discuss needs on a 1:1 basis.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding any aspect of transition, please contact the SENCo on her email address sarah.hawley@wilmingtonacademy.org.uk and she will endeavour to support you further.

We look forward to welcoming your child to Wilmington Academy.
