Matthew Spradlin is in his twentieth year as Director of Bands at Wilmington High School after holding a similar position for three years in the Franklin City School District. Mr. Spradlin received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Miami University and a Master of Music Degree from Wright State University completing his thesis “Incorporating a Year-round Chamber Music Program in the High School Band Curriculum.”
In 2004 he was awarded an “Excellence in Teaching” award from the Area Progress Council of Warren County, in 2011 The Williams Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Wilmington Schools Foundation, and was named the 2018 Wright State University School of Music Outstanding Alumni.
In addition to his role at Wilmington High School he serves as the Music Director/Conductor of the Ohio Valley British Brass Band and frequently serves as Music Director/Conductor for the Wilmington College Theatre Department. He has served as interim conductor of the Wright State University Concert Band and as an honor band guest conductor throughout Ohio. Mr. Spradlin stays active in the Ohio Music Education Association where he has served in various leadership positions and is currently a member of the Adjudicated Events Committee
Mr. Spradlin’s ensemble have earned consistent superior ratings at district and state events, have performed at Disney World, Dixie Classic National Adjudicators Invitational, University of Kentucky Windfest, and the Ohio Music Education Association Professional Development Conference. Mr. Spradlin holds professional memberships in the Ohio Music Education Association/National Foundation for Music Education, the College Band Directors National Association, the National Band Association, and Phi Beta Mu International Band Fraternity.
