About

The Instrumental Music Program in the Wilmington City Schools consists of over 300 students in grades 6-12. Students begin in the Band Program on an instrument in homogeneous classes during their 6th grade year. After one year the students have the opportunity to continue their band experience throughout middle school in the 7th and 8th Grade Bands. Each of these bands performs regular concerts throughout the year as well as giving performances at school assemblies. The 8th Grade Band has a long tradition of performing in adjudicated events throughout Southwest Ohio. Both the 7th and 8th Grade Band students participate in Solo and Ensemble contests every year.

The Bands at the High School consist of two concert Bands, The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, and the Jazz Band, Marching Band and Pep Band. The Symphonic Band is open to any High School student who wishes to play in the band program. The Wind Ensemble is an audition group of accomplished High School musicians. Both of these groups perform a regular concert series throughout the school year and give special performances in school assemblies and community events. These Bands have a strong history of performances in OMEA Adjudicated Events.

The High School is proud to offer Jazz Band to students who wish to study jazz composers, jazz styles, and improvisational skills. The Jazz Band is incorporated in the school’s curriculum and meets as a class every day.

The Wilmington High School Marching Band, the “PRIDE” of Wilmington is an all extra-curricular activity and follows school eligibility rules where students must maintain a certain level of academic achievement to continue their participation. This band performs at all High School Varsity Football games, local community events, and Adjudicated events.

The High School also offers the opportunity for students to play in the Pep Band. This extra-curricular group meets during the winter season and performs for High School Basketball games and school events
