Information and FAQ
Home Meets
5th AND 6th graders are able to participate in the one home meet this season.
We will meet at our normal meeting spot and walk over to WJHS together.
Away Meets
6th graders are welcome to compete at all away meets.
5th graders do not compete at away meets but HMS will hold practice on those days for 5th graders and any 6th grader that does not want to participate at away meets.
Transportation & Supervision
Parents are responsible for coordinating rides for students to and from all meets (Carpooling is encouraged).
Each child should have an adult who is responsible for them at the meet (Coaches will be there, but often are running events).
What to Wear/Bring for Meets
Wear appropriate running shoes and clothing.
Please try to wear a blue shirt (Even Better if it’s a Highcrest Shirt).
Dress for the weather (layers are encouraged).
Bring water!
What time do Meets End?
We typically receive the “lineup” of events the day-of the meet. (The order of events varies by school).
Your child may leave with an adult whenever they finish competing.
What if my child can't go to every practice?
That’s okay! We would love to have them come when they’re available to explore track, grow at their level, and make new friends!
Does my child have to compete at meets?
Competing in the meets is optional! Home meets are available for 5th graders and 6th graders to compete, and away meets are open to only 6th graders. Students can choose what events (track only, not field) they would like to compete.
How long is track practice?
For the days that we have practice, students will meet right after school for a snack time, check-in, and practice ends at 4:45. Please pick your child up at the main office.
How will track information be communicated?
Students: Track information will be posted in Schoology
Parents: Email and Schoology Updates
How does weather potentially affect track?
For practices/meets that are canceled due to weather, we will make an announcement at school, send a parent email, and post it on Schoology.
Are there tryouts?
There are no tryouts for track. All students from all ability levels are welcome!
