Spring 2026:
Open gyms: There will be 3 open gyms prior to tryouts. Dates are TBD. These open gyms will be for skill teaching and practicing. Tryouts will be used to showcase what you can do, not to learn the skills.
Tryouts: Tryouts will take place on Monday January 26th at HMS in Gym B. Athletes MUST be registered prior to tryouts at 3:45pm. Instructions for registration can be found HERE. Athletes will be asked to pass, set, spike, and serve at tryouts. Please come with gym shoes and appropriate attire. Knee pads are highly recommended, but it is understood that the purchase of pads may want to wait until after tryouts.

Participation and Fee Requirements
We are excited to welcome and support athletes who are interested in participating in our programs. These are fun opportunities for our students to build connections at school and to be part of an active team after school hours. In order to participate, fee payments and all required documentation are required before a student athlete can participate. Please carefully review the information provided on the Home Page regarding participation and fee requirements. All fees and required paperwork must be submitted in order for the athlete to participate.
For Cut Sports, such as volleyball, field hockey, basketball, dance:
Fees will be assessed to athletes by the district on the day that teams are selected. Families then have 48 hrs from that time to secure a spot on the team by paying the athletic fee. If the fee is not paid, then it is understood by all parties that the family will forfeit the position and "next up" athletes will be granted the position for that athletic year.
*Students who qualify for financial assistance will not lose their spot as long as they show proof of need and communicate that to Nancy Potisuk (potisukn@wilmette39.org) at the district office. This will then be conveyed to all parties so they do not lose a position on a team.

Practice Information:
Practices are at HMS on M,T,TH, 3:45pm-4:45pm starting in Gym B, and Wednesdays 7:15-8:15am in Gym C. On match days, athletes will report to Room 200 after school, as there will be no practice. This practice time will allow for students to take the late bus, if needed. The weekly practice schedule varies, based on holidays and games that are scheduled for the week. The first practice for this season will be Tuesday, January 27th in Gym B.
Our student-athletes have busy schedules, and we know that they may not be able to attend every practice, and every match. We do ask, that prior communication is given if there is a conflict in schedules. Please send this communication to treonk@wilmette39.org .
Gear: Athletes will need black shorts to complete the game uniform (jerseys will be provided) and I highly recommend knee pads for practice and games.
Practice Pick-up & Drop-off:
Parents are asked to promptly pick students up on the north side "front" of HMS at 4:50pm each day of practice. In the interest of keeping our athletes (and their families) safe, we ask that you follow our request to pick-up on the north side "front" of HMS in the circle drive.
Students taking the late/activity bus will be walked to the upper parking lot by Coach.
For Wednesday morning practices, please drop your athlete at the Athletic Entrance. Coach will let players in via the gym doors there. If you athlete participates in orchestra, they can choose to miss Wednesday mornings, or attend the first half and then go to orchestra.
Transportation to away matches:
- A one way bus will transport the team to away matches.
-Addresses of away schools can be found on our athletics calendar by clicking the event.
-A parent/guardian needs to pick up the student-athlete from the away school after the competition.
-Please make sure to check-in with your coach before leaving the away match with a parent/guardian.
