Eagle Kickers Learning To Fly | Journal & Topics Media GroupA year after going 9-10-2 overall, Willows Academy soccer wanted to turn things around in 2019. The Eagles have done just that so far. Willows is 10-4 (2-1 conference) this season with a handful of games to go in the regular season under first-year head coach Leah Kartsimas. Through 14 games, the Eagles have outscored opponents 41-13 with six shutouts. Sophomore Ashleigh Fischer (12 goals, 10 assists; 2 game-winning goals) and junior Clare Kelly (9 goals, 2 assists) have combined for 21 goals this season to lead the offense, which is scoring at a higher pace than 2018. Last year Willows scored 42 goals and allowed 36 in 21 games. "Ashleigh Fischer, Claire Kelly and Theresa Presberg have exceeded my expectations for a first year coach," Kartsimas said. "All three are so coachable and have so much drive to get better and improve every game and practice. When they miss a shot or a pass, they get after it and want it back. Senior Theresa Paschall has shined in the last two games! She had the only goal vs. Latin by charging the goal on a corner kick and she was able to create multiple opportunities for her teammates to score! Theresa helps on defense and offense in her job as an outsider midfielder and is able to work through both well. She is always there to support her teammates whether we need extra coverage on defense or an extra scoerer on offense! Way to go Theresa!!

Junior Tess has grown so much since her injury last year and starting out the soccer season this year! She came out strong and full force scoring against Regina in under 90 seconds of the first whistle! Tess took some time off mid season to rest her knee, but has come back against Latin and Ida Crown ready to win! At attacking or defending center midfield, Tess is in almost every play of the game and she takes command of the middle. She attacks the ball and doesn't take getting the ball taken away lightly. Keep up the great work Tess!
