Plot Summary
“Gladiator” is a 2000 epic film directed by Ridley Scott and written by David Franzoni, John Logan, and William Nicholson. The plot of the movie revolves around Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russel Crow), who is betrayed when Commodus (Joaquin Pheonix), the ambitious son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris), murders his father and seizes the throne. Maximus is reduced to slavery and becomes a gladiator. He rises through the ranks of the arena to avenge the murders of his family and his emperor. The movie was released by DreamWorks Pictures in North America and Universal Pictures internationally through United International Pictures.
