Not only is Gladiator a great movie on its own merit, what groundbreaking things it did for the sword and sandal genre truly puts this film in a league of its own. With the use of CGI, the different portrayal of traditionally marginalized communities, and the foreshadowing techniques, there is a reason we could see the revival of sword and sandal films after "Gladiator". Even though the film had modern elements, it still brought the same action packed plot as a more tradition film of that genre. With Ridley Scott's ability to bring together the traditional aspects along with new modern ones, it is clear how "Gladiator" revived a once dying genre and reshaped it into what we see today.
