Students interested in taking a gap year after high school are recommended to communicate this with their counselor. It is important for students considering this to still be knowledgeable about the college application process, should they revisit this after graduation.

Dynamy Internship Program — Internship-heavy program teaching independent living and professional skills
Outward Bound USA — Wilderness expeditions focused on resilience, leadership, and teamwork
AmeriCorps — Paid/service-based programs across the U.S. with housing, stipend, and education awards. Great if you want affordable options and meaningful work.
Common Gap — New 2026 program matching students with startup jobs, especially in tech and AI. More career-oriented than travel-oriented.
Semester at Sea — Live on a ship, take college-level courses, and visit 10+ countries in one semester. Great for globally curious students who still want academics.
Gap Year Association — accreditation, safety standards, and program search tools.
