Students will begin learning about the Physical Fitness test in third grade. They will learn about the four different areas being assessed; cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, muscular strength and muscular endurance. They will also learn the exercise related to the area; mile run or pacer test, back saver sit and reach test, push ups and curl ups. In fourth grade their scores are sent to the State of Connecticut. For fifth graders, it is a practice year because the scores do not get sent to the state of Connecticut that year but will be sent at future grade levels . It is very important that students practice at home as well to see improvements as the time that we have each week to focus on these exercises is not enough to improve their score. Feel free to challenge your child to a push up or plank challenge. Or invite your child to go on a run with you!
