Farmington Penguin Plunge
Sunday February 9, 2020 @ Winding Trails
WHAT DO I WEAR?!
From people who have done this before, we recommend:
Before you go in the water:
- Warm clothes (sweatshirts, sweatpants, etc.)
We will be waiting outside for awhile leading up to the plunge. You will want to be warm until it’s time. They have us wait in a heated tent just before going in (once you take your layers off).
In the water:
- a bathing suit under gym shorts and your KP Cares t-shirt (a KP shirt or KP blue is ok too!).
- water shoes or sandals that will stay on your feet (not necessary but the ground is rocky and muddy so you’ll appreciate having something to protect your feet)
After:
- Layers of warm clothes!
- Coat, hat, mittens, etc.
- Warm shoes
- Hot chocolate, if possible :)
In past years, the plunge area has been very muddy. I recommend not wearing any clothing or shoes that are new or cannot be washed.
Arrive BY 9:15 - there can be a long line to register. We may need this time to get everyone through the line in time to go in the water. (DRESS WARMLY!! Layer over your plunging clothes. It may be a cold and long wait) Plungers and Volunteers
Register “8:00” - 10:00 – You MUST have a signed waiver from your parent. You may print this off ahead of time and bring it with you signed. (Especially if you are carpooling!)
You should also have your donations totaled with a list of who donated and how much. You may choose to include the address of the donor so they can receive a receipt of donation.
Plunge 10:00 - We won’t know where KP is in the order until the morning of. It should only take a few minutes for each group to plunge. Groups usually start lining up 20 minutes before the plunge. Please plan accordingly.
Leave immediately following plunge- Students are free to leave as soon as they exit the water. There will be heated bathrooms available to change out of wet clothing.
FYI: these are typically very crowded and muddy from wet feet walking through dirt but people get in and out quickly. Students have been advised to bring lots warm clothing to put on after the plunge.
