On Monday, May 22nd, 8th graders were given the chance to participate in the second annual Career Fair. The Career Fair was a rare opportunity to explore career paths, ask questions, and receive feedback on their resumes. Sixteen local employers gathered in the North gym to meet around 160 eighth grade students. Groups of students worked their way around the gym to talk to the employers. This will help the students in the future to find jobs and business ideas.
"I liked how kind they all were," said Alice H. "It gave me an opportunity to get out of my introverted shell."
Ashtyn M. explained, "Now, when I go to an interview, I will have had this experience."
"It was a great time to see the different careers and get an idea of what I would like to do." stated Edolie P.
After last year's Career Fair with only seven businesses, this year's sixteen businesses more than doubled that of last year. The businesses gave us some feedback, as well. Said Jared Jamison of AE Ascend, "They were very polite and professional. Some had great communications skills for this age. Resumes were great."
Staff Sgt. Willis from the Army National Guard stated, "They asked pointed questions about vocations, products, and culture. They asked for personal experiences and openly conversed about relevant topics. They focused on the information and intentionally listened to job descriptions."
Logan Health Whitefish was a returning business from last year. "Your students are quite amazing, we enjoyed interviewing them and giving them the opportunity to practice real life skills," said Debra Hobart.
We want to extend a heart-felt thank you to all of the businesses that participated in this year's Career Fair! (See list below the pictures) Also, a special thank you to Miss Craft's Foods classes for all the delicious cookies they provided.
