On April 19th through the 21st, a group of 7th graders went on a big adventure - the annual trip to Big Creek,
The campers not only stayed at Big Creek, but they also stopped by Lake McDonald on the way up, and learned about the differences between the National Park Service and the state park. After their lake learning, they finally headed to the camp. After having lunch, and getting settled in the dorms, they started their first day of classes. Classes included fire building, compass training, and shelter building. After a delicious dinner, they had an hour until in dorms time, then lights out.
The next day, the happy campers learned about creek bugs (AKA Macro Invertebrates), Bull trout and Lake trout, and the benefits of wildfires. Later, they ran their own version of the color run, consisting of jumping through hoops, jumping over rocks, and hopping on a rope with one leg. It was more of a relay style. That evening, they broke into groups, and created skits to perform.
The last day, they hiked about two miles. They saw various wildlife, including two bald eagles, vultures, and a hawk. They learned how to identify different trees.
All in all, they had a great time.
