The School Counseling Program has created the following SMART goal based off of Pilar 4.
SMART Goal: "By the end of the 2025-2026 school year, I will contribute to increasing the percentage of students who Agree or Strongly Agree that they feel emotionally safe at school from 68.1% to 76%, as measured by the annual student survey."

Where: Across all grade levels in the school.
When: By the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
Why: To support the school’s strategic goal of fostering an emotionally safe and supportive environment for all students.
Measurable:
Use the baseline data (68.1% of students feeling emotionally safe) and monitor progress annually through student survey results.
Track qualitative feedback from student focus groups and monthly meetings to gauge improvements in perceived emotional safety.

Implement mental health awareness programs, workshops, and training sessions for students and staff.
Collaborate closely with the Walnut Grove Police Department and Burrell to enhance campus security and support mental health initiatives.
Relevant:

Time-bound:
Achieve the target increase to 76% by the end of the 2025-2026 school year, with regular assessments and adjustments throughout the academic year.
Action Steps (Aligned with provided action steps):
Participation in mental health first aid training annually: Encourage and facilitate staff and student participation in mental health first aid training to enhance support systems.
Provide training on the Courage 2 Report online reporting tool: Educate students on utilizing the Courage 2 Report tool to report safety concerns anonymously.
Student focus group on feeling safe at school: Facilitate focus groups to gather student feedback on factors affecting their emotional safety and develop action plans based on their input.
Monthly meetings on relevant topics: Organize regular meetings between counselors and students to discuss bullying prevention, mental health awareness, and other relevant topics.
Develop expanded partnership with Walnut Grove Police Department: Strengthen collaboration with local law enforcement to ensure that the Officers have opportunities to foster healthy relationships with students.
Install interior and exterior campus surveillance cameras: Improve security measures to provide a safer environment for students and staff.
Continue partnership with Burrell and track progress: Maintain collaboration with mental health service providers like Burrell and regularly assess progress towards improving emotional safety. Further, I will invite Burrell to facilitate both staff and student trainings to deepen our awareness on various topics and create a more cohesive culture.
By implementing these action steps and monitoring progress through surveys and qualitative feedback, the school counselor can effectively contribute to achieving the SMART goal of increasing the percentage of students who feel emotionally safe at school.
