The students in the 8th grade band are in their second year of formal music training. The 8th grade band performs in two on campus concerts each school year, region solo & ensemble, and all region band auditions.

The 8th grade band is the link between beginning band and the high school band.  It serves as a training ground for those students who will eventually become members of the high school band.  For most students, successful completion of the 8th grade band will allow them to participate in band in high school.  However, some students may not be ready for high school band, and these students are required to enroll in "Introduction to Band" in the 9th grade to allow them more teaching time to acquire the necessary skills for participation in the high school band.
