Political cartoons and Internet memes both use humor, exaggeration, and symbolism to comment on current events and social issues. While political cartoons traditionally appear in newspapers, memes have emerged as a modern, fast-moving form of political expression across social media platforms.
Your Task:
Find a historical political cartoon in class. Then, find a political meme that addresses an issue similar to the cartoon you found.
Sample topics: Government power, war, elections, civil rights, economic policy, immigration, etc.

Use your research organizer to create a Google Slide Deck that compares and contrasts the political cartoon and meme. Include images of both. Turn in on Canvas (100 point project grade)!
***Answer the questions below on your last slide:
How do political memes and political cartoons influence public opinion?
How might they contribute to the political divide in the United States?
How might the speed and ease in which political memes are shared over social media lead to misinformation and confirmation bias?
Extra credit (bonus points!): Create your own political meme and cartoon that communicate the same core message about a political topic that is important to you. Include these images in your Google Slide Deck with an explanation about your message.
