Literacy for Life is a 9th grade elective that focuses on reading comprehension.

In this class we learn many strategies for improving our comprehension, such as:

• Using titles and subtitles to locate information

• Note-taking

• Using questioning strategies

• Integrating prior knowledge to bring meaning to the text

• Pre-reading strategies

Throughout the year, we will explore many topics in depth, through various print sources, such as books, news articles and informational texts.  This will prepare students for success on state exams that require students to integrate information fron various text in order to answer questions.
