Welcome to my website. This site has information for the parents and students in my 12:1:1 reading and writing classes, my Strategic Reading Transition and my resource room and ICT support classes at William Floyd High School.
My reading and writing classes will be reading and writing about a wide variety of topics this year. We will be reading both fiction and nonfiction. We will read current event news articles, short stories, poetry, and even modified versions of classic novels. Instruction will be based on individualized student needs and goals. However, all students will receive instruction in decoding, vocabulary, comprehension and oral and written expression. Class materials are differentiated in order to meet the unique needs of each student.
Resource room and ICT support classes will receive direct instruction in a variety of topics such as study skills, organization, time management, and coping strategies. In addition, they will receive individualized support to help them succeed in their classes and achieve their individualized goals. Resource room is NOT a study hall. Students will be actively working toward their individualized goals. Students will learn to monitor their own progress, and take ownership of their academic performance.
In Strategic Reading Transition, we will be focusing on the skills students need to successfully transition from high school to adult life. We will address a wide variety of topics including daily living skills, safety, community integration, public transportation, safe internet usage, money and budgeting, and civics. In addition, we will work toward improving our reading, writing and communication skills.
