WELCOME TO THE MJ ART STUDIO
4th Grade Pinhole CANmera images are starting to arrive!
Inspired by the work of artist Nicole Croy, 4th graders used soda cans to build pinhole cameras. Light-sensitive paper was placed inside and exposed for three or more days to capture a negative image. After scanning the negatives, students used iPads to edit the images. More images will be posted as they come in.

Student-Directed Artwork on Exhibit at Central Office
March 2020 - March 2021
4th grade students were challenged to use a media of their choice to create an artwork inspired by one of the four seasons. Student choices ranged from batik pillows to digital drawings to plaster sculptures. Before beginning their project, they took time to experiment with their chosen media. They practiced related skills such as colored pencil techniques, or ways to build an armature. Students were encouraged to look at multiple resource photos or objects so that their final project would be a unique, yet detailed work of art.
Youth Art Month Exhibit
Congratulations to the following students for having artwork accepted into the Youth Art Month Exhibit at the State Transportation Building in Boston. The exhibit will be open weekdays from February 10th - March 26th, with a Family Day Celebration on Sunday, March 1st from 12:00-4:00 PM.

MAEA Poster Contest Winners
Each year, the Massachusetts Art Education Association sponsors a statewide poster contest for Youth Art Month. This year, students at Martha Jones received three of the grade-level prizes as well as the Elementary Level Prize!
