Why should I see the Athletic Trainer?
Athletic Training services are here to help you. If you have been injured, or are unsure about a potential injury, see the Athletic Trainer. The Athletic Trainer will evaluate your injury, advise you on how to proceed, and assist you going forward.
Where is the Athletic Training room located?
The Athletic Training room is located at the intersection of the gym and pool hallways. From the gym lobby, simply follow the hallway with all the large sports photographs and you will walk straight into the room.
What are the Athletic Trainer's hours?
The Athletic Trainer's hours vary season to season and even day to day based on the practice and game schedule, and potential travel for games. However, on most school days the Athletic Trainer will be present before the last block of class-time and will remain at the school until all athletic events are complete.
Why do I need a Doctor's note?
The Athletic Trainer takes direction from a physician. The Athletic Trainer maintains ongoing communication with the Team Physician, but if you need to see your pediatrician, another orthopedist, or any specialist for that matter, the treating physician must give you a physical note explaining your status, any restrictions, and must sign off on your Return to Play.
Does the Athletic Trainer travel with teams?
Generally, no. With most interscholastic high school sports, the home school is responsible for Athletic Training coverage for any games being held on-site. However, the Athletic Trainer will travel with Varsity Football, and with teams in the post season tournament when possible.
Does Westwood High School provide concussion testing?
Yes, as of Fall 2021 both Sway Medical and ImPACT testing can be utilized by the Athletic Trainer. Baseline Sway testing will be administered seasonally to contact and collision sports and either platform can be utilized in a post-injury manner.
