Athletic Health Care Team (AHCT)
The AHCT consists of the Team Physician, Certified Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director, School Nurses and Athletic Department Assistant. Each member of the AHCT has a specific role and responsibility.

Our Mission: To provide the best possible healthcare to all of our student-athletes. To prevent, manage and rehabilitate athletic injuries in accordance with current sports medicine guidelines. To return all athletes as quickly and safely to participation in sports, yet always being guided by what is in the best interests of the athletes’ long-term health.
Team Physician: John J. Tierney, D.O.
Medical School: Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Philadelphia, PA
Residency: Genesys Regional Medical Center Michigan State University
Fellowship: New England Baptist Hospital – Sports Medicine
Dr. Tierney is an Orthopedic Surgeon who serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. He is fellowship trained and a Staff physician in Sports Medicine at New England Baptist Hospital. He currently serves as medical director for Greater Boston Orthopedic Center and has served as the Wolverines’ Team Physician since 2005.
Athletic Trainer: Paul M. Lilla, MS, LAT, ATC

Paul M. Lilla MS, LAT, ATC has served as the Athletic Trainer for Westwood High School since the Fall of 2001. Mr. Lilla’s primary responsibility is to provide injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, management and rehabilitation services for all WHS athletic programs. Click Bio for more information.

Laura Cucchi, RN BSN
Nurses Shu and Cucchi provide a comprehensive medical program to promote health, safety, and wellness for all WHS students. They collaborate daily with Mr. Lilla regarding student athlete injuries. Visit the Nurses' Office.
Athletic Director: Richkaard Verrier
BA, Curry College 2016
MS, Boston College 2019
Mr. Verrier has served as Athletic Director since 2025. Previously, Mr. Verrier was the Assistant Athletic Director at Needham High School.
Athletic Department Assistant: Michael Rector
BS, Bridgewater State University 2015
Mr. Rector serves as assistant to the athletic director and also serves as a Wellness teacher in the High School.
