Multipliers by: Liz Wiseman
Nora Zollweg and Jenn Fisk
I enjoyed this book. I saw my own personal leadership style occasionally reflected in the Accidental Diminisher model. I need to work on trusting others to do their work without my "suggestions" and listen more! This advice is for when I work with both adults and students.

Leaders Eat Last by: Simon Sinek
Nora Zollweg and Frank Messina
I first learned about this book from a Ted Talk given by the author. I wanted to know more. This book clearly outlines a leader's responsibility in creating an environment where the company can succeed. It's the leaders job to create and internal environment where employees feel safe.

Interview a Current Leader in Career & Technical Education - Teresa "Gibby" Gibbons
Teresa "Gibby" Gibbons is the Vice President of the Counseling and Career Development Division with the Association for Career and Technical Education located in Alexandria, Virginia. This is a national organization that supports CTE across the United States.
Gibby loves connecting with and learning from other professionals. The list of duties she is responsible for was long. I'm not sure how she gets everything done on time. Duties include: board meetings, leadership meetings, writing reports, quarterly newsletters, planning for various meetings at a national, regional and division level. When I asked her what was most challenging about her position she immediately said "Meeting Deadlines." I can't blame her.
She became interested in her position/job field because she enjoys helping students plan for the future. She has a masters degree in counseling and feels her personal attribute that has been essential for her position is the ability to communicate.
I've found Gibby to be personable, caring and truly dedicated to serving her peers, coworkers and students. She has made a difference in the lives of many.

Serve on a Region V Committee - Awards
I am now officially a member of the Region V Awards Committee. Craig Statucki is the president. He graciously agreed to let me set up and conduct the annual Region V mock interviews. This is something the awards committee does annual to prepare Region V winners for interviews at the National Level. We consistently receive positive feedback from candidates. They all agree this practice session is valuable as they prepare for that critical final and official interview.
These are the candidates:
John Mulcahy - Lifetime Achievement Award
Heather Webb - Counseling and Career Development Professional Award
Natalie Hancock - Teacher/Educator of the Year Award
Ben Hamlett - Post Secondary Teacher of the Year Award
Richard McPherson - Carl Perkins Community Service Award
Miranda Bright - New Teacher of the Year Award
Laura Miller - Teacher of the Year Award
Shank Watkins - Administrator of the Year Award
Each candidate was able to choose an interview time. Members of the Policy Committee volunteered to be judges. Interviews went really well. We only had one issue - which was not really a big problem. One of the candidates is from Arizona. He arrived an hour late for his interview because he thought they were calling in from Mountain Time. He forgot that Arizona doesn't participate in daylight savings time. The judges stayed late and made sure he had an interview. This situation is not something I would have ever considered. Lessons learned for future interviews that take across time zones.
