Signing up for College Classes with CollegeNow! or Kickstart Online
Metropolitan Community College offers two programs where students can take for-credit college classes independently: Kickstart Online Institute (KSOI) and CollegeNOW. CollegeNOW classes occur during MCC's regular quarter schedule.
Fall classes run September - November
Winter classes run December - February
Spring classes run March - May
Summer classes run June - August.
Students can take college classes through CollegeNOW online or in person. What to get started? Click here.
Kickstart Online runs during a semester schedule and only offers classes online. These classes are ONLY for high school students. All of these classes can be taken for dual credit (high school and college credit), should the student's high school accept the credit. Fall session runs August-December and Spring session runs January-May. What to get started? Click here.
Make sure you are able to login to Self-Service using your MCC username and password. If you need to reset your password, call IT at 531-622-2900. Once you've logged into Self Service, click on the "Plan & Schedule" button to view your current schedule. This page will show all the classes for which you are currently enrolled.
If you are a new student or haven't taken classes in a while, you might need to set up Multifactor Authentication (MFA). Multifactor Authentication is used to help secure your MCC account by requiring you to confirm your identity through a third party application or source, such as a text or phone call. For example, if you set up your Multifactor Authentication as a text message, each time you login to your MCC account from a new device, you will receive a code via text message, which you will need to enter in order to access your MCC account.
To set up Multifactor Authentication, you will need to login to Okta. Okta is the platform where you can access your account information and all the applications you have access to as an MCC student.
Once you are logged into Okta using your MCC credentials (the same login information as Self Service and Canvas), click on your profile picture in the upper right corner. Then, click "Settings."
Now, click the green "Edit Profile" button located towards the upper right corner of your screen. Note that you might need to re-enter your password. Now, you should be able to edit your profile information. Scroll down until you see the box labeled "Extra Verification."
Choose the option you wish to have as your MFA and click "Set up." Note that "SMS Authentication" is a text message.
Follow the on-screen instructions to finish setting up your Multifactor Authentication. If you have questions about this process, contact MCC's IT department at 531-622-2900.
As a college student, time management is super important. In fact, you might have heard this term and wondered what it really means. Using the right tools can help you to have better time management skills, which means you will easily be able to turn in all your assignments on time while also having time for extracurricular activities, family, and friends.
A really great way to help you manage your time is by using a planner. For college classes, you'll want to write down all your due dates for the entire class on the first day of class when you receive your syllabus. This will help you to know what assignments are due soon and when you can work ahead.
You can also add your high school assignments, appointments, games, and more to your planner.
