Tests 1 & 2

One step equations require ONE STEP to isolate the variable: Add, Subtract, Multiply or Divide. Make sure to watch out for negatives!

Tests 3 & 4

Two step equations require TWO STEPS to isolate the variable.

Step 1: Add or Subtract a Constant

Step 2: Multiply or Divide by the Coefficient

Tests 5 & 6

If there are parentheses, DISTRIBUTE

If there are like terms on the same side of the equal sign, COMBINE THEM

Tests 7 & 8

If there are variables on both sides of the equal sign, PICK A SIDE

If equations have decimals, you can keep them and perform the operations with decimals or you can MULTIPLY BY A POWER OF 10.

Test 9

If there are fractions in the equation, you can perform the operations on fractions like normal or you can multiply the equation by the LCM.
