Our History

Soundings was founded in 1947 at Staples High School and, since then, has been a student-run publication.

Created in the beginning of the Contemporary Literature Movement, Soundings was born amongst works such as Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison (1952), Go Tell It On the Mountain by James Baldwin (1953), and A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry (1959).
