Challenging Problem Solving Practice

Below are links to different opportunities for students to engage in challenging problem-solving situations. When working on these problems, students are strongly encouraged to follow the steps outlined below:

  • Do work on lined paper, clearly noting which problem is being worked on (For example: "2016 Continental #3, Question 4")
  • Clearly and thoroughly show work on each question solved
  • Check answer using answer key provided
  • If answer is incorrect and can't be corrected with thorough understanding, students should seek help from teachers, classmates, parents or other people.

Students may encounter questions that go beyond their content knowledge and/or their problem-solving skill set. It is acceptable for expected for students to not be able to solve all the problems at the links below. These questions will not be on in-class assessments. Of course, if interested, students can see their teacher for help on any question.

Continental Math League

7th grade students take the Continental Math League contest 5 times per school year. Click here to view some of the contests as well as some videos with solutions.

Students are encouraged to work on the old Continentals for extra problem-solving practice.

Students are encouraged to make their own video of a solution for any question that does not have a video solution. Additionally, students are encouraged to make a video of their solution if they solved the problem differently than what is presented in a video solution. Videos with the correct solution and a clear and thorough explanation will earn the student additional course credit and will be linked to on this site.
