The People Who Have Shaped Room B106 in 2019
By the students and teachers of Mr.Shilalie’s Class 2019
Edited by Yasmeen and Allegra
A Perspective From the Editors
Yasmeen
I originally got this idea from Bloomberg BusinessWeek. Bloomberg comes out every year with a list of 50 people who shaped 2019, which inspired me and Allegra to create this list for our class. I was reading the list and came up with the idea. About three hours later this booklet was being made. Although Bloomberg’s list contains both negatively and positively influential people this list contains only those who have had a positive influence on the students of this class. I hope you enjoy this.

When I heard about this project from Yasmeen I was very excited! We got to work after school that day. Less than a week later we have this wonderful project to present to you. Enjoy!
Afraz
My Brother: My brother helps me with anything that I need help with. He always tells me to do the right thing and to calm down.
My Mom: My mom makes me food whenever I feel hungry. She is really caring.
AJ
My Parents: They have helped me through my life in many ways.
Mrs. Rodgers: Mrs. Rodgers helps calm me down. She helps me find strategies that help me calm down!
Alix
Phineas S: Phin is kind. He is a very good friend. He loves to draw with me. He stands up for people when they have a hard time.
Sam C: Sam is fun to play with. He is fun and he loves to read, especially about dinosaurs.
Allegra
Lynne McVie: Lynne McVie (Millie McVie’s mom) is an inspirational person because she is a great athlete, a great soccer (and former lacrosse) coach. She is creative, different, and her accent is not something that I get to hear every day. She starts a conversation that is interesting, not just “‘How are you?”’and other stuff like that. That is why I picked Lynne McVie.
Millie McVie: Millie McVie (Lyne McVie’s daughter) is my best friend. She is very hardworking, funny and lazy, she always is grumpy in the morning and will not leave her hair down for me. When I go to her house the pictures of Millie when she is two are very amazing; she wore her hair down, with a bow, and a dress! When I first saw that picture, I was very surprised.
Arya
My friend: My friend/brother has impacted my 2019 by teaching me to say strong and to troll. He trolls me a lot and I’ve learned to stay strong and fight back.
My teacher: My teacher, Mr. Shilalie has impacted my 2019 by teaching me methods of stuff I never knew. I continue to use those and will for the rest of my life.
Avril
Ms. Heather: Ms. Heather is one of my dance teachers, and she has taught me a lot this past year. Thanks to her, I can do a lot of cool things.
My parents: My parents have always been there for me no matter what. They take care of me when I’m sick, and are always there to listen. I am very grateful.
Elaine (Bad Books)
Dad: Dad is good because he is a good math teacher. He doesn't even mind teaching me even when I don't understand what is going on. If he didn't teach me I would have failed in math.
Mr. Shilalie (Meester Sheelalay): Meester Sheelalay wanted me to do him so I did him. He also made me read terrible books. So then I can write bad book reviews. That's how Bad Books and Life Advice started.
Gaby
My mom: My mom takes care of me when I am sick.
My dad: My dad helps me with my homework when I don’t understand.
Greg
My classmates: My classmates talk with me and encourage me to try new things.
Mr. Shilalie: Mr. Shilalie has taught me many things.
Gwen
Zoe: I picked my twin sister Zoe because all year she's been there for me. I can always talk to her even though we don't always agree. She also helps me when I'm very sad.
My Grandfather: I picked my grandfather (Papa), because this year he finally came to live with us! It makes me super happy to have him here with us. He is very supportive and kind.
Katie
Arya: Arya always makes me feel better because when I am sad she always hugs me. She has a big heart!
Riley-Kate: Riley-Kate loves to play and talk to me when I am lonely. One time I was on the swings and she joined me!
Lila
My sister: My sister has impacted my life as well as my year. She is always there for me whenever I need it. She helps me with my violin and helps me make it better.
My pets: My pets have impacted my year in a lot of ways. They are cats and I love cuddling them, and taking pictures of them.

Oliver
My Parents: My parents helped me by being there to support me.
My Sister: My sister is always there when I need help.
Phin
Alix: Alix is a great friend. He always stands up for me.
Sam C.: Sam is a very kind person and a good friend. He always tries to stop fights.
Riley-Kate
Hailey: My dachshund loving twin sister is always laughing and dancing. In bad and good times she always adds a smile.
My grandmother: My helpful kind nanny’s always helping us, even when she broke her foot, got poison ivy and got the flu.

Matias: Matias is a good friend. He sat next to me twice.
Yasmeen
Amanda Anisimova: Amanda Anisimova is my favorite tennis player, she plays professionally on the WTA Tour. She is only 18 and had a 24/15 win/loss record in 2019. Her father (who was also her coach) died this year and she only missed one tournament because of her loss and came back with so much passion for the sport.
Leah Harrison Singer: Leah Harrison Singer is the editor of Bloomberg BusinessWeek. I chose her because she represents Bloomberg and it has changed my life. If it weren’t for her, this article would not even exist (see prospective from the editors).
Mr. Shilalie
My wife: Dana is extremely supportive and kind. She listens when I need someone to talk to and she makes me smile when I need to be cheered up! We have had some significant events happen in our life in 2019, and I’m glad that Dana was by my side for them!
My students: A group of people who have had a big impact on my 2019 have been my students. I am extremely proud of how hard they work and all of the progress they have made over the year. I am also grateful for how much I have been able to learn from them!
Ms. Gibbons
My nana: My nana had a huge impact on my life in 2019 because she always encourages me to live my life to the fullest. She encourages me to travel, explore the world, and to always try new adventures.
My mom: My mom has had a huge impact on my life every year; but especially this past year. She is a teacher, like me, and is a great role model. She always gives me great advice to help me become a better teacher.
