The goal of this project was to learn about the human anatomy while practicing using charcoal. I drew the angled upper half of a skeleton with black and white charcoal pencils and a charcoal stick. At first, I felt like I wasn't making a lot of progress because drawing the ribs was very tedious. However, I got the hang of it quickly and started to enjoy it, letting myself be more expressive. I spent around 6-7 art classes working on this project. My favorite thing about the process was drawing the skull and humerus bones.
The goal of this project was to use my imagination to make something out of a water color blob. I really enjoyed this project because I love drawing cartoons and this let me be really creative. The water colors were difficult at first because it was a new medium for me and I don't really like how they look, but I started to like them because of the interesting color combinations I could make. I used the technique of splattering water color on the paper to try something new even though I was worried it would ruin the drawing. I ended up loving how it turned out! The red and green contrast in the top left is really nice and interesting to look at. Overall, this project helped me feel more comfortable with water colors and going out of my comfort zone with new techniques.
The goal of this project was to explore oil pastels and learn how to draw a still life. I started by first lightly sketching the general shapes of the objects with a pencil. I then laid down the base colors and continued to layer until I was finished. My favorite thing about this project was using a lot of colors to make something mundane more interesting, which is why the flower is so colorful. I also really like using oil pastels in generaal because they blend easily. My least favorite part of this is the composition of the pinecone. I thought it would look good, but it is bland compared to the rest of the drawing. Overall, this was a good project because it allowed me to learn both technically and branch out creatively because I copied a still life accurately while incorporating many colors into it.
The purpose of this project was to explore surrealism. My usual art style is more surreal than anything, so this project was really fun for me. My favorite thing to draw is surreal faces, which I pushed even more in this project. I spent around 2 hours on each face. I usually use Micron pens to draw, but I had the chance to use inkwell pens and Sumi ink. The new medium was more unpredictable, but the results were more interesting than if I had used regular pens. Though I didn't struggle during this project, I got very frustrated when something didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. This usually happened when my pen would run out of ink or make a stroke different to what I planned. Despite this, the project was really fun. I loved using inkwell pens and stretching realistic faces into something more interesting.
