Today we're learning:
How and why we can use the style and ideas of other photographers in our own work.
Why?
By studying other artists, we can improve our own artist practise
We'll be successful when:
I can take ideas from other photographers and integrate them into my own work
I can judge to what extent I'm using the ideas of others versus my own and can justify my own artwork as original and not plagarism
We've been working on analysing images of successful artists in that work in a genre that is of interest to us. The purpose of analysing is to break an artwork down into its components so we can understand how it is put together or created. This also illuminates how the artist has gone about conveying a specific message or purpose and also gives insight into why a certain artwork might be valued socially or culturally.
As part of this process, we've started to ask the question - 'How can I use these ideas in my own work?'. Today we're going to explore that question a bit further. We will start by looking at a couple of the videos below that explore the questions of how to use other artists in your own. As we watch the videos below, we will note down some of the key points that are raised in each video and add them to the following slideshow (you have a copy shared in your drive).

The above videos raised some interesting points about imitation, inspiration and the boundaries between those and copying and plagiarism. The following articles explore these ideas further. Pick one of the three articles and then complete the appropriate slide in your slide show by answering the questions.
