Founded in 1984, Science Olympiad is a national nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the quality of science education, sparking student interest in science, and recognizing exceptional student achievements. Their mission focuses on learning, participation, interaction, having fun, and fostering team spirit.
Each year, 25 events are updated to reflect advancements in genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering, and technology. These challenging and motivational events are well-balanced across various science disciplines, encouraging a diverse range of students to participate.
Teams prepare and compete over an eight-month season, engaging in multiple invitational tournaments leading to regional, state, and national competitions. A Science Olympiad tournament is an all-day event that requires teamwork, planning, and cooperation. Each team consists of 15 students, with individual members competing in 3-6 one-hour events on the competition day. The team’s overall score is determined by the combined results of these events.
