Happy September Westlake Community,

August brought major routine shifts to your children and your family's daily life with the start of school. Now that September is in full swing it is important to maintain consistency. "But" also it is a time of reflection. What routines are working for my family or classroom and which are not?

Modern research now says that the 21-day rule to create a new habit may not be completely accurate.

Simple changes can occur sooner while more complex changes may take several months. However, all change requires consistency. Repeating the action in the same way helps cue the brain and build muscle memory.

So moving through the rest of September... What are some ways you would like to build consistency into your routine while make small adjustments to changes that are not supporting you?

I am excited to join the Westlake Charter School Family and Community. My name is Dr. Young and I will be WCS/WCHS new BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst). This is my 13 year in education. From my early years as an educator, I learned that meaningful strength that comes from parent and teacher relationships. I recently moved to California from Washington, DC. I have had the amazing opportunity to live in 5 states and DC. Through my travel across the US, I have seen the amazing power that comes from collaboration. It is my hope to bring a servant's heart to Westlake Charter School and make this community home.
