Kindergarten is making art inspired by Jasper Johns and his Alphabet painting. We are using the letters in our names!
First grade created primary color abstract works inspired by Piet Mondrian. Now, they are working on collage landscapes with secondary color painted paper. (not pictured yet!)
Second and third grades finished up their Model Magic clay leaves, added string and a little poem. :)
Middle school drew raccoons and added a Starry Night background. Later they began their work with collage materials!
Kindergarten learned all about types of line. After drawing lines with oil pastel, artists painted the negative space between the lines.
First Grade made collage color wheels!
Second and Third grades added watercolor and oil pastel to their vanishing point pumpkin patches. They look amazing!
Middle School worked on an artwork showing positive and negative space by laying out objects to trace and then adding a line design to the negative space.
Kindergarten learned all about using markers to draw things they like and worked on large format paper!
First Grade used a printing technique to make a background for their Yayoi Kusama inspired pumpkins.
Second and Third grades drew pumpkin patch fields using a horizon line, and a vanishing point to create the illusion of space!
Middle School began using masking tape and paint to create a tape resist work of art that explores positive and negative space inspired by the work of Piet Mondiran and local artist Jose DiGregorio.
A few weeks have flown by in Art! We have been busy with primary colors again in kindergarten with a group who just finished their session.
In first grade we drew line owls and painted them using cool colors (except for yellow).
In second and third we have been learning about form and value as elements of art. To do this, we are using gentle or firm pressure with a twistable crayon which creates value in color! And, to learn about form we are drawing gems by starting with a simple shape and adding lines. Soon the gems will be colored with VALUE and even given a chalk "glow" of color.
Middle school has finished their identity walls and they are on display. Stop by and say hi, if you want to take a look. Now they are learning all about space as an element of art. They did this by creating a composition using black and white paper.
This week in art first graders made papel picado in honor of Hispanic heritage month. These banners will hang in our classroom windows!
In 2nd and 3rd we practiced watercolor techniques in preparation for a watercolor artwork we will start next week!
Kindergarten learned all about primary colors through various medium, and Middle School worked on painting their names for their Identity wall.
This week in art we all worked on artworks that include elements of art and personal interests.
In 1st -3rd grade we continued working on our Artist Portfolios by adding color with markers and crayons. In kindergarten we used similar tools to draw things we like in picture frames, and in middle school we continued our Identity Wall projects by drawing our name in a style of choice and tracing or embellishing it with sharpie.
This week in 1st-3rd we practiced using a few tools like crayons, dry erase pens, pencils and erasers to begin work on our art portfolios! We added our name in bubble letters and types of lines in the background.
In kindergarten we explored lines with crayons and ended our week with watercolor painting!
And, in middle school we began work on and Identity wall project by stamping with paint!
I am so excited to be working with your children this year! In the first weeks of art we will be getting to know each other, while we learn all about the art classroom procedures, routines, and tools.
