Getting Here

Site Information

The site is Rebarchek Field, a relatively flat grassy field that is part of the Alaska State Fairgrounds. If you attended June Crown 2019, this is the same site.

It's an easy drive from Anchorage, heading north out of town on the Glenn Highway and staying on the Glenn until you reach E Rebarchek Ave. From the north, take the Parks Highway to the Glenn, then follow the Glenn to E Rebarchek Ave.

The field is named for the Rebarchek family, one of the families that came to the Matanuska-Susitna Valley from the northern Midwest as part of Roosevelt's New Deal.

The traditional name for the Palmer area in Dena'ina Athabascan is Denal'i Kena, which is translated in Shem Pete's Alaska as "Flat of the One That Is Standing" or "Flat of The One That Is Watching Us". Denal'i here does not refer to the central Alaskan mountain known in Dena'ina as Dghelay Ka'a, but rather Pioneer Peak (Dena'ina: Denal'iy).

Airport Information

The best airport to fly into is Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (IATA Code: ANC). This airport is approximately an hour from site and located in the Anchorage metro area. ANC is served by Alaska Airlines, Delta, American, and United. Car rentals are available in the terminal or (usually cheaper) off the terminal elsewhere in Anchorage.

If you're looking to compare fares, Kayak and Google Flights are both good options.

Note, if you google "Palmer Airport", you will discover that Palmer itself has an airport (IATA: PAQ). HOWEVER, PAQ is a general aviation airport and you won't have any luck finding flights there. Use ANC, I promise that's your best bet.

Getting from the Airport to Site

Car rentals are available in the terminal or (usually cheaper) off the terminal elsewhere in Anchorage.

On-airport facilities include Avis, Budget, Thrifty, Alamo, and Hertz.

Driving in Alaska in June is easy, the only major hazard to watch out for are the moose, which (good news) are easier to spot than deer.
