Overview:

In this module you will be learning about Google Sheets, an online spreadsheet app that lets you create and format spreadsheets and simultaneously work with other people.

Objectives:

  • Create a Google Spreadsheet or import and convert Excel, .csv, .txt and .ods formatted data to a Google Spreadsheet
  • Export Excel, .csv, .txt and .ods formatted data, as well as PDF and HTML files
  • Use formula editing to perform calculations on your data, and use formatting make it look the way you'd like
  • Share your file with collaborators and viewers
  • Evaluate Google Sheets as a cloud-based communication and collaboration tool

Student Responsibilities: Please review the linked resources below, complete the tasks, and share your thoughts on Google Classroom.

Tasks:

    • Create a new Google Spreadsheet or import and convert Excel, .csv, .txt and .ods formatted data to a Google spreadsheet
    • Invite your classmates and the instructor to collaborate on a spreadsheet with you, giving them editing privileges
    • Use formula editing to perform calculations on your data, and use formatting make it look the way you'd like
    • Download your spreadsheet as Excel, .csv, .txt and .ods formatted data, PDF or HTML

Discuss: Complete the following on Google Classroom.

    • Share the link to your Google Sheet (Make sure your privacy settings allow anyone with the link to view your document).
    • Share your thoughts on the positive/negative aspects of using Google Sheets to collaborate and communicate with your colleagues, students, and families, and how you might integrate this tool into your teaching.
    • Feel free to comment on at least one other student's note.
