Every Friday, we will begin emailing this newsletter to our families with weekly updates that pertain to WGMS. The home page will include the most up to date information that you need to know; however, on the other tabs you can find information that has been previously shared or information that interests you. We hope this will be helpful to keep our families, students, and staff in the know.
If you are dropping your student off in the morning please arrive early to ensure your child is not marked tardy. If you can please pull all the way up to the sign, we will be able to get more students into the building in an efficient manner. Thank you all so much for your cooperation.
Please join the Student Council in helping to collect food and pantry items for a one day food drive, May 4th. Scan the QR code for more information!
Attention Families and Students of 6th and 7th:
It's that time of year again when we begin our scheduling process for next year! Students have the opportunity to select the music course they prefer for the following year. In addition, rising 8th graders may also choose their preferred world language selection for 8th grade. Please note: all schedules are subject to change and adjustments may be made due to scheduling conflicts.
Your child is receiving the links to the scheduling selection forms in his/her email this week. If you'd like to complete the Google Form with your child, the links are below.
Student course placement for next year is being reviewed at this time. Placement into enrichment/honors classes will be based upon common assessment scores from this current year. Students must maintain an 80% average on common assessments in order to qualify for continued placement into these courses.
Course recommendations will be mailed home in June. Final schedules will not be available, however, until August.
If you have any questions about scheduling, please reach out to Mrs. Timmons at dusty.timmons@westg.org.

Internet Safety:
This week I was able to attend a presentation at my child's school that hosted Jesse Weinberger, an expert on Internet Safety. I wanted to pass along her website so you can explore the resources she has available.
Here are her recommended prevention strategies delineated on Jesse's website:
No phones under 13yo
No social media under 13yo – COPPA federal guideline – Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act – says that children under 13yo are not allowed to have any social media accounts.
Physically take phones and tablets away at night.
Check out her book, website, and blog for a lot of good information!
On March 21st, please join with your West Geauga PTOs for Rock Your Socks Day, to honor those living with Down Syndrome. Celebrate with us by wearing mismatched socks. Why mismatched socks? Chromosomes in our cells look like a pair of socks, and individuals living with Down Syndrome have an extra chromosome. By wearing mismatched, fun, or colorful socks, we can start a conversation about the things that make all of us different and yet the same. For more info on Down Syndrome, visit worlddownsyndromeday.org.
Joe Trentanelli, Caroline Yeager, and Isla Yellen represented WGMS along with students from 21 other middle schools throughout Northeast Ohio.
