Dear Sixth Grade Parents/Guardians:
We are in the process of planning this year’s Sixth Grade Camp, which will take place on May 18-20, 2026. This three-day/two-night experience will take place at Camp Fitch in North Springfield, PA. Sixth Grade Camp offers a variety of unique, first-hand educational opportunities that cannot be offered in a conventional classroom. The students will learn about the outdoors and themselves as they participate in the Camp Fitch curriculum, engage in team-building activities, and share responsibilities with their classmates. Going to camp will give all students the opportunity to make new friends and create lasting memories.
Camp Fitch is a branch of the Youngstown YMCA, and is located on the shores of Lake Erie approximately 1½ hours from Chesterland.
The cost of camp is $155 per student. This includes transportation, lodging and most meals. In order to attend camp, payment must be made through Infinite Campus (in the School Store) and the Camp Fitch Waivers and Permission/Pick-Up Forms must be completed by Friday, May 1st.
Departure for camp will be at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, May 18th, and we will return in the early afternoon on Wednesday, May 20th. You will need to make arrangements for bringing and picking up your child’s equipment at the school. More specific information regarding this will be provided as we get closer to camp.
Carefully selected students from the high school will act as camp counselors. WGMS staff, a school nurse, Camp Fitch staff, and a West Geauga administrator will also monitor the students. In addition, we will be asking for parent chaperones to help monitor the students in their cabins at night. A chaperone form is linked on the next page.
The cabins at Camp Fitch are heated, have restrooms and private shower facilities. Boys and girls will be separated into different cabins.
If your child will need to take ANY medicine while at camp, there are specific procedures which need to be followed. The medicine, along with the required forms, must be submitted to the middle school nurse by Friday, May 1st. Please see the next page of this letter for more information.
There will be an informational meeting with a representative from Camp Fitch on Wednesday, March 18th, at 5:00 P.M. in the Middle School Cafeteria. If you have any questions before then, you can reach me by e-mail at scott.raines@westg.org.
I look forward to another great trip to Camp Fitch!
