Camp Fitch

We are here! The day has finally come and the kiddos have made it to camp. The weather is just gorgeous here; sunny, breezy and brisk. We've made it through a couple activity hours and dinner. Lights are going out by 10:30.

Day 2 is just as beautiful, even a little warmer than yesterday!  With all the activities today, everyone is going to sleep well tonight...

Morning of departure... Everyone is packed up, had a morning activity and is getting ready to feast on brunch! We should be back to school around 12:30 pm for pick up.  See you then. Be sure to check out the photo page and talk about the pictures with your student! I'm sure there are plenty of memories and stories to reminisce.

Dear Sixth Grade Parents/Guardians:

We are in the process of planning this year’s Sixth Grade Camp, which will take place on March 11-13, 2024. This three-day/two-night experience will take place at Camp Fitch in North Springfield, PA. Sixth Grade Camp offers a variety of unique, first-hand educational opportunities that cannot be offered in a conventional classroom. The students will learn about the outdoors and themselves as they participate in the Camp Fitch curriculum, engage in team-building activities, and share responsibilities with their classmates. Going to camp will give all students the opportunity to make new friends and create lasting memories.

Camp Fitch is a branch of the Youngstown YMCA, and is located on the shores of Lake Erie approximately 1½ hours from Chesterland.

The cost of camp is $145 per student. This includes transportation, lodging and most meals. In order to attend camp, payment must be made through Infinite Campus (in the School Store), Camp Fitch Waivers must be completed and the permission slip must be returned by Monday, March 4th. If you would rather send a check, please make it payable to West Geauga Board of Education.

Departure for camp will be at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, March 11th, and we will return in the early afternoon on Wednesday, March 13th. You will need to make arrangements for bringing and picking up your child’s equipment at the school. More specific information regarding this will be provided as we get closer to camp.

Carefully selected students from the high school will act as camp counselors. WGMS staff, a school nurse, Camp Fitch staff, and a West Geauga administrator will also monitor the students. In addition, we will be asking for parent chaperones to help monitor the students in their cabins at night. More information about parental chaperones is provided on the next page.

The cabins at Camp Fitch are heated, have restrooms and private shower facilities. Boys and girls will be separated into different cabins.

If your child will need to take ANY medicine while at camp, there are specific procedures which need to be followed. The medicine, along with the required forms, must be submitted to the middle school office by Monday February 26th.  Please see the next page of this letter for more information.

There will be an informational meeting with a representative from Camp Fitch on Wednesday, February 21st, at 5:00 P.M. in the Middle School Cafeteria.  If you have any questions before then, you can reach me by e-mail at scott.raines@westg.org.

Thank you,

Scott Raines
