Community Colleges

Massachusetts is Home to 15 Community Colleges!

Massachusetts Association of Community Colleges (MACC)

The MACC mission is to advocate, communicate and collaborate in order to strengthen community colleges for the benefit of students, communities and The Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Why Community College?

The fifteen Massachusetts Community Colleges provide accessible, high-quality, and affordable academic programs to residents across the Commonwealth. Community Colleges provide the safest option to begin or continue your higher education journey, offer the greatest flexibility to students whose plans are still changing, are close to home at a time when it truly matters, and remain the most affordable option for students.

Our credit and noncredit offerings help students receive high quality instruction toward an associate degree, transfer to a 4-year institution, or earn short-term credentials to jump directly into the workforce.

In addition, community colleges are the nation’s engine for job training, swiftly retraining and upskilling workers to fit into the ever-changing economy. We provide specialized training in high-demand fields such as healthcare, IT, cybersecurity, and first responder roles like EMTs, firefighters, and police officers, among other essential professions.

Mass Transfer Program

The MassTransfer Program enables students enrolled at any of the Commonwealth’s 15 Community Colleges to transfer their core credits to a four year public higher education institution within the State University and UMASS System.

MassTransfer not only allows the student’s credits to transfer, it also makes sure that they will not have to backtrack and repeat overlapping courses at four year institutions. This is one of the many ways that Massachusetts is working to make college affordable.
