Hello Amazing Almost-Fourth-Grader,
I hope you’re enjoying the last weeks of summer vacation—I certainly am! I also hope you’re getting excited to start the new school year, because together, we are going to do great things!
This is my 21st year teaching 4th grade here at Day School, and let me tell you a secret: 4th grade is absolutely the best grade!
Here’s what you can expect:
We’re going to work hard, learn a ton of new things, and laugh—a lot.
Some stuff will be easy, and some stuff might feel a little tricky—but that’s OK! Mistakes are just proof you’re trying, and we’ll tackle every challenge together.
My only requirement? Come to school ready to try your best.
You probably already got the supply list from the school, which included earbuds or headphones. These are very important but please no earpods or other Bluetooth connected devices. These need to be old fashioned wired ones! Bring them to school in a ziploc bag marked with your name. If you need a copy of the district supply list, it can be found below!
Important mission details:
First Day: Wednesday, August 27
Location: Fourth grade hallway, Room 115
Directions: Don’t worry, there will be plenty of teachers to help guide you. You will not get lost! Just pass the 3rd grade classes and wave to your 3rd grade teacher as you go by. Then, head down the 4th grade hall; we are the very first room!
Send me an email to say hello, let me know what you’ve been doing this summer, and how you’re feeling about the start of school. Also, please let me know how you would like me to label all of your desk materials; some kiddos use nicknames!
So soak up those last few days of vacation—swim, read, play outside, maybe even sleep in—because soon you’ll be part of the most legendary 4th grade class of all time. I can’t wait to meet you!
Your new teacher (and hopefully future favorite),
Ms. Poirier
Supply List
Below is the supply list that was sent home in an email from the Day School office earlier in the summer. I ask that all students have their materials in school as soon as possible, but by Wednesday, September 3 at the latest. We will get started using and setting up our materials right away. Parents, please send me an email if you need assistance fulfilling this list.
Large Zippered Pencil Case - big enough to fit the following items:
3 Glue Sticks
1 Pair Child Size Scissors
2 Highlighters
2 Erasers
1 Package of 12 Colored Pencils
1 Package of 8 Markers
2 Black Sharpies (fine point)
1 Pencil Sharpener (no battery operated sharpeners please...skip the ones that make noise!)
12 Pencils
1 Package of Post-It Notes
2 Dry Erase Markers
Ruler (Standard/Metric Markings)
1 pkg Crayons - 16 colors
Wired headphones/earbuds (not bluetooth/wireless)
We also love donations of tissues and paper towels. Please note that though I love the sentiment and intention, we are unable to take donations of Clorox or other such cleaning wipes. These are banned from use in our classrooms and the district does provide us with alternatives.
Communication
First, please fill out the parent contact info. You will be filling out so much in the next couple of weeks, but this information is just for Ms. Poirier and makes sure I can keep you updated on items related to the class and your child, specifically.
Next, please bookmark this website. I will push all updates out from there and will keep them housed on the site. I will also post pictures of my students and classwork here too.
Finally, I will be using “Remind” as one way to communicate with all families. Remind is a very convenient service that allows us to send out very quick, text reminders. While the website (with a “new post” email) will be used for larger, lengthy updates, “Remind” will be used to send out quick reminders for items that easily get lost and buried in previous emails. Information like, "Be sure your child brings his/her instrument tomorrow," "Science class outside tomorrow! Bring sunscreen,” or "Pajama day tomorrow!” are examples of what “Remind” will be used for. This allows us to avoid creating a group text thread where all cell phone numbers are visible, etc. We strongly recommend enrolling your mobile number in our “Remind” class. Here are 2 ways to do so:
Send a text to: 81010 with the message @23a3b3f
or
(There is also an app for Remind that will send you “push notifications” messages rather than text messages, if you prefer.)
Email Ms. Poirier at bpoirier@westfordk12.us with any and all questions!
