This course serves as a means to learn and advance your guitar and musicianship skills and caters to all levels of student proficiency.
Materials
Folder dedicated to guitar class -- Your organization and possession of this folder at each class will insure success in this course. Please do not use a folder for another class.

Basics
- Know the parts of a guitar
- Folk playing position
- Classical playing position
- Tuning
- Stringing
- Chords
- Flatpicking
- 1st position notes on all strings
- 1/2 and whole steps
- Strumming Rhythms
- Musicianship
- Music Notation and reading on the Treble Clef
- Tab and chord notation
- Musical Literature from a variety of styles and cultures: solo, accompaniment and ensemble
Grading Policy
Students will be graded on the following:
- Recordings—30%
- Performances –30%
- Participation –20%
- Music Theory—20%
Internet Policy
Students may only use internet devices during individual or small group work sessions and only for academic purposes related to the class.
Guitars
It is recommended that you obtain a guitar for practice at home. You may find that in order to keep up with the class you will need to put in extra time at home. Having a guitar of your own will also allow you to play songs you desire that are not covered in class.
