Each student at the Abbot School has Library Class once each week. Depending on the day they visit the library, the teacher will be either Mrs. Monaghan or Mrs. Morgan. Students are allowed to have two books out of the library at any one time. Books are due two weeks after they are checked out, unless they are renewed. Lost or damaged books are paid for or replaced.
What is MCBA?
The Abbot Library participates in The Massachusetts Children's Book Award Program because it encourages our students to read great books!Fifth grade students are given a “master list” of book titles selected by the MCBA Committee each year. Students across the Commonwealth are eligible to vote for their favorite once they have read at least 5 out of the 25 books. Voting takes place at the beginning of March each year and the winner is selected by Massachusetts students. The winner of the MCBA award is usually announced in May.
Most of the titles on the master list are available in the library, at the JV Fletcher Library, and online through Overdrive by Libby. The author of the winning book receives a plaque to commemorate the award!
