Supplies:
Each day, a student needs a pencil, a pen or colored pencil, a ti-34 Multi-View calculator, a 150-250 sheet spiral notebook, and their math binder (or a section of a larger binder).
Marking period grades will be calculated using a point-based system. The categories listed below represent the number of points that a student can earn from each assignment. Grades on individual assignments can be calculated by dividing the total points earned by the total points possible, then multiplying by 100. The rubric for homework assignments can be found below.
Homework - 2 points
Quizzes - Up to 50 points
Tests - 100 points
Homework Rubric
2 point: "I have completed the entire homework assignment. I have shown all work and checked all answers."
1 point: "I did not complete the entire assignment. I did not show all work and/or I did not check my answers."
0 points: "I did not show work for any of the assignment."
Algebra I - Grade 8
Algebra I - Grade 8 is a full-year, formal Algebra I course for eighth graders. Algebra I often is viewed as the gateway to future success in higher mathematics, post-secondary studies in math-related fields and a wide variety of careers. In this course, students extend their understanding of basic algebraic concepts and acquire both skills and the conceptual foundation needed for advanced mathematics. They learn to use symbolic reasoning, equations and functions to represent, analyze and interpret situations and apply algebraic reasoning to solve problems. In addition, they become more adept at communicating mathematically and justifying their thinking. After successfully completing this course, a student will be prepared to begin the formal study of geometry.
