Workshop Descriptions

New: Solar Boat Racing

In this hands-on STEM experience, participants will delve into the fascinating world of renewable energy and engineering by creating and building their very own solar-powered boat racers. Throughout the week, campers will explore the fundamentals of solar energy, dive into the basics of boat design and construction, and collaborate with peers to construct their unique vessels. From integrating solar panels to optimizing for speed and efficiency, participants will engage in a thrilling Solar Boat Racing Competition.

New: Scratch Programming

Do you have an interest in Computer Science? Do you want to learn how to create a computer based game of your own? In this workshop, you will use Scratch, a programming interface developed at MIT, to be a computer scientist and creator of technology!

Mind Blowing Science

Channel your inner scientist! In this workshop, students explore scientific concepts as they perform a variety of experiments involving chemical reactions.  Some of these experiments include creating explosions, making slime, working with dry ice, and making lava lamps and dippin dots! WARNING: Individuals with food/ dairy allergies should not take this workshop. Ingredients may contain traces or have come in contact with nuts or shellfish at food processing plants.

CSI Forensics

Are you interested in solving a crime? Does piecing together evidence through analysis excite you? This camp session is for you because you will get a behind the scenes look at the field of forensic science. Through this experience you will learn proper techniques for analyzing hair, fiber, blood, and fingerprints as you solve this year’s mystery.

Stop Motion Animation

Do you like Legos® and computers?  In this class, you will design, film, and create your own Lego® stop-motion animation video! To make your animation realistic, you will also learn about force, motion, and gravity. By observing how objects move and fall in the real world, you can recreate Newton’s Laws of motion within your stop-motion movie. Learn advanced physics concepts, and have fun at the same time!

Makey Space

Calling all Electrical Engineers. With the use of a Makey Makey, students will use their imagination to design and construct out of recycled materials their very own sound creation all while learning about simple circuits and conductivity. (Note: the Makey Makey can’t go home with the camper.)

DNA: Cracking the Code of Life

DNA is the carrier of our genetic information and is what makes us who we are. No two humans are genetically identical. In this workshop, campers will become scientists that work their way through multiple experiments. They will learn everything from utilizing technology for DNA extraction to DNA analysis and simulate the use of DNA in solving a forensic investigation.

Flight Engineering

3-2-1 Take Off! The Beginner's Workshop to Flight will help you learn the basic math and physics (forces and motion) that govern the design of airplanes, helicopters, & rockets. You will create and test your own aircraft!

Engineering Design Challenges

Calling all Mechanical Engineers. If you enjoy problem solving and engineering design challenges, this workshop is for you. As an engineer and while competing against other campers, you will be challenged to design and create mechanical devices to complete different tasks.

Surviving a Disaster

A massive tsunami just hit the east coast! Water is contaminated and buildings are destroyed. What would you do to survive? In this workshop you will design new technology & engineer survival tools out of everyday materials to help survive after a natural disaster.

Robotics Explorations

Robots are transforming the way we live. It’s never too early to learn the fundamentals of robotics engineering. In this workshop, campers will develop their teamwork and problem solving skills by working with a partner to program a sensor based robot using the Lego ® MINDSTORM EV3 technology. Each day, campers will face a new challenge to solve.

Mission Impossible

Your mission is to retrieve the secret file without being detected. Do you choose to accept the mission? In this workshop campers will learn about the science of optics and decoding messages. Campers will engineer different technology such as decoder glasses, a periscope, and a device that redirects a laser light.
