STEM Camp 2025 - Workshop Descriptions

Each camper is enrolled in 4 different workshops, giving them the opportunity to explore different topics of interest. Each workshop lasts approximately one hour, with a 5 minute break in between periods.

When registering, choose your camper's top 4 workshops and 3 alternates. We have limited space in each workshop, but we do our best to ensure that every camper is enrolled in 3 of their top 4 choices.

Get ready to build and battle with Hydraulic Judo Bots! In this workshop, you will construct mini robots powered by simple hydraulics. You will learn about the principles of fluid mechanics while designing bots capable of pushing, lifting, and grappling. By the end, everyone will have a custom hydraulic bot ready to compete in an exciting judo showdown!

You will be able to combine creativity and technology to craft animal models from cardboard and micro:bits. After you design and assemble your animals, you will program the micro:bits to add interactive features like movement, lights, or sounds. You will explore how to bring your ideas to life while experimenting with sensors and motors. (Note: Micro:bit can’t go home with the camper.)

Using simple materials, you will design and build crash-test cars while learning the basics of engineering and physics. Topics including momentum, impact forces, and structural integrity will be explored. Each car will be tested in crash simulations to analyze how design choices affect safety and performance. Discover creative solutions like crumple zones and shock absorbers to protect a "passenger" during collisions. This hands-on activity encourages problem-solving, innovation, and a deeper understanding of real-world engineering challenges!

Design and build your very own wind-powered vehicles using simple materials and creative engineering. As you explore the principles of wind energy, aerodynamics, and motion, you will discover how to harness the power of the wind to propel your creations. The session culminates in a fun and exciting race to see whose vehicle performs the best!

Calling all Electrical Engineers. With the use of a Makey Makey, students will use their imagination to design and construct their very own sound creation out of recycled materials, all while learning about simple circuits and conductivity. (Note: Makey Makey can’t go home with the camper.)

Delve into the fascinating world of renewable energy and engineering by creating and building your very own solar-powered boat racers. Explore the fundamentals of solar energy, dive into the basics of boat design and construction, and collaborate with peers to construct your unique racing vessel. Best of all, at the conclusion of the week you get to go home with the boat you created.

Robots are transforming the way we live. It’s never too early to learn the fundamentals of robotics engineering. In this workshop, you will program a sensor based robot using the Lego ® SPIKE ™ Prime technology. Each day will bring a new challenge to solve.

Get a behind the scenes look at the field of forensic science. Through this experience you will learn proper techniques for analyzing hair, fiber, blood, and fingerprints as you solve this year’s mystery.

Design, film, and create your own Lego® stop-motion animation video! Learn about force, motion, and gravity so you can recreate Newton’s Laws of motion within your stop-motion movie. Learn advanced physics concepts, and have fun at the same time!

3-2-1 Take Off! The Beginner's Workshop to Flight will help you learn the basic math and physics (forces and motion) that govern the design of airplanes, helicopters, & rockets. You will create and test your own aircraft!
