Television production courses at Westfield High School develop an understanding of media production and consumption in a hands-on learning environment. Television Production I is a semester course, open to students in grades nine through twelve and is the first of the Television Production offerings. Students also participate in at least one Blue Devil Television production outside class in a variety of production roles.
Television Production I introduces students video production equipment such as cameras, tripods, microphones, and computer based non-linear digital editing software. Students develop their aesthetic and storytelling skills by manipulating sound and moving images to tell stories. Students earn credit through variety of video projects such as Public Service Announcements and music videos. The course also stresses media literacy skills and teaches students to act as critical consumers of electronic media.
