Computer Applications

Digital Literacy is designed to expand on students’ skills in web based software applications for use at school, home and everyday use in the real world. Students learn word processing and spreadsheet tools, presentation skills, how to create blogs, and podcasts, basic video skills and digital literacy. Students are given the opportunity to work on several projects throughout the semester which are both creative and functional. Students use critical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills, along with technology and other tools, to prepare them for future educational and occupational experiences.

In today’s world, a student who accesses the internet without being aware of its potentially benefits and dangers is at a distinct disadvantage. Students who have been educated about the Internet and are cyber literate are more likely to operate in a safe and ethical manner in cyber space.

This course is designed to teach students the importance of being digitally literate. Students learn many web-based applications as we prepare them for high education and the real world, but also the importance of the digital footprint that they are leaving. Students understand that actions online can have lasting consequences.
