This advanced level literature course focuses on a variety of authentic Latin texts, with particular attention to Vergil's Aeneid and Pliny the Younger's Epistles. The nature of advanced literature including epic poems, letters, and histories is a central focus of this course. Portions of these and other works may also be read in translation to enhance understanding of the nature of the style of writing and Roman culture. This is primarily a literature course with additional readings on mythology and ancient history. There is also continued emphasis on oral/aural learning of Latin. This course is recommended for most students who have successfully completed Latin III and are interested in reading Latin literature, in developing reading and translating skills and in refining written expression.
