Course:  U.S. History I/Defining the Identity of the United States 

This required course satisfies the first year of the state mandated U.S. history requirement. This course is organized around the theme of identity. Students engage in an in-depth analysis of United States history encompassing the early national period through the mid-20th century (1780s-mid 1940s). Students are challenged to consider how the nation developed its identity and continues to redefine itself over time, both domestically and in the international arena. There is an emphasis on direct student engagement in the learning process and it is the intention of the course to help students refine their individual thinking process and develop the participation skills for active involvement in their nation and the world.
