What is The Silhouette?
Answer: So many things! Ultimately, this is a Westerville North Student club that focuses on encouraging and sharing the creative works of our talented student body. We do this through the publication and maintenance of this website, contests, and regular small-stage events throughout the school year.
How do I join the staff of The Silhouette?
Answer: Show up to meetings. They are after school on Thursdays in Room 133. If you can't make it to the meetings, see Mr. Taylor to find out if there is work you can do outside of the meetings.
What do I get if my work is chosen for The Silhouette?
Answer: Unfortunately, as a school club, we are only able to provide exposure and recognition to the student creators who we feature. It is our hope that this work can be listed on your resume and help you secure the bright future you deserve. We promise to work hard to make this publication a credit to your work and thank you for supporting us by sharing!
Is this a newspaper?
Answer: Nope! Our school has a newspaper, The Odyssey (@wnhsodyssey), that is published through the Journalism program at WNHS. These are similar in that they are both student run publications, but they have many differences.
Most of all, The Silhouette publishes only creative works, where The Odyssey reports on news items and current events relating to WNHS students. Students who write for and create The Odyssey are doing so for a class with a grade as part of a journalism curriculum. Students who are working on The Silhouette are doing this on their own time. Journalism students are welcome to also be staff on The Silhouette.
How did The Silhouette get started?
Answer: Most high schools have a literary magazine. Westerville North published Horizons for years but had stopped in the mid-2000's. In 2016, Hawa Tarawally (WNHS 2017) petitioned school and district administration to resurrect this student activity. This publication was then formed. The students decided to name it The Silhouette to acknowledge its predecessor, but also to stand apart from it as it took on a new digital format.
