Step 1: Make a copy of the "Argumentative Essay Outline" template.
Step 2: You should have created your research question in Task 05: "Writing Effectively Part 1 - Research Your Topic," here you will refine and adjust it as necessary as you organize your thoughts on your outline.
Step 3: Do not forget to stop at the red STOP sign! Before continuing on to the body paragraphs on your outline, please check in with your ELA Teacher to ensure your thesis statement/claim will work.
Step 4: When your outline is complete, submit it to Beacon.
Using the articles you just read as inspiration and/or sources, write an argumentative essay of your choosing. Feel free to be creative about your research question and have fun with it. Your essay should cite AT LEAST THREE DIFFERENT SOURCES. PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY BLOGS OR WIKI.
Here are some suggested arguments (but feel free to think of your own):
Are video games beneficial, or are they bad news?
Is Fortnite addictive or just plain fun?
Do video games cause violent behavior?
Does watching anime give you the same benefits as reading a good book?
Should eSports be included in the next Olympics?
If you have another idea, discuss it with your mentor or ELA Specialist.
Instead of typing an essay, here is another argument option: One-Pager- You also have the option to do a "One-Pager" instead of a formal paper. This task still needs to meet all of the competencies listed in the ELA 2's.
Below are some examples of One-pagers:
