The Memoir
“Every secret of a writer’s soul, every experience of his life, every quality of his mind, is written large in his works.”
—Virginia Woolf
Creative writing is defined as "writing, typically fiction or poetry, which displays imagination or invention (often contrasted with academic or journalistic writing)." While the idea of being imaginative and inventive is something writers aspire to, a lack of ideas can lead to the dreaded"writer's block," resulting in a blank computer screen or sheet of paper. When facing a lack of ideas, a great place to begin is with the memoir (mem-wär), a type of creative non-fiction that allows you to draw from your own life experiences.
