Constructions and Transformations

West Ada Academies 2019-2020

NOTE: For distance learning, check Slate for what you are required to do and only do those tasks. For number talks, email me. You can do the rest of the tasks either on separate paper and send me pictures, or type your work, or whatever other method works best for you.

For each credit (two studios), you will complete math in three different forms.

  1. First, you will need to learn the basic math skills and concepts. This will be done through traditional teaching and worksheets and include a test or quiz assessment after each module.
  2. Second, you will attend a set number of number talks with the teacher. The number talks will focus on major concepts, explanations, and mental math.
  3. Lastly, you will complete one performance task for every two studios, in which you demonstrate your ability to use math in an application project. The performance task will not cover all math skills and concepts from the course, but will use some of the math skills and concepts from the course.

  • I will be able to critique mathematical reasoning.
  • I will be able to reflect on my process and solution.

I will be able to make geometric constructions.

I will be able to understand the concept of a function and use function notation.

I will be able to experiment with transformations in the plane.

WEST ADA LEARNING CYCLE

To the left is our West Ada Academies Learning Cycle. This course is designed with content that fits into one of five categories: Engage, Explore, Practice, Apply, and Reflect. You will move through the stages of the learning cycle as you engage in the studio's driving questions, and then learn, practice, and apply the target skills listed above. When you get to the apply stage, you will make a presentation or use another method to show what you know. Finally, at each Milestone and again at the end of the studio, you will reflect on your project and what you have learned.
